The evidence strongly suggests that early prevention is key when it comes to tackling eating disorders. Existing prevention research has targeted eating disorder risk factors, such as, body dissatisfaction and thin ideal internalisation.

Unfortunately, body dissatisfaction is almost more expected than contentment as the modern society celebrates a thin body, which is often known as the ‘thin ideal’ and is unattainable for most.

Programmes that critique appearance ideals and that provide media and nutrition literacy have been shown to improve body satisfaction and promote a healthy relationship with food.

Hence, the need for nutrition and media literacy programmes like PreventED. The PreventED programmes and talks aim to give individuals the power and confidence they need to critique appearance ideals and the false nutritional information that is promoted to attain these ideals.
